Unfortunately that's a false sense of security. Auto-filling the reservoir
does nothing to auto-fill the boiler should the steam valve be inadvertently
left open a crack which can drain the boiler. But as Pecan Jim found out
AFTER buying a new boiler/heating element combo Silvia has a resetable
thermal protection that usually will kick in and save the heater should the
boiler run dry.

Let's say "it COULD give you a false sense of security" about your
boiler. But, as you point out, this has nothing to do with putting
water in the boiler and won't prevent a meltdown.
The autofilling mod doesn't give me any sense of security regarding
the boiler -- but it is a HUGE convenience in not having to refill
the reservoir once or twice a day.
By the way, the resettable thermostat will also kick in if you forget
to turn off the steam switch... Been there, done that -- way too
many times. That's why I've also put up a Resetting Silvia's Thermostat page.

Remember after steaming. Run the pump to refill the boiler also open steam
valve to clean tip.If you add these two steps you should not have a problem.
Oh Mike today I had my first sink shot with the Brute. It was my fault I
under filled the PF. I looked at it and knew . I thought to myself this E61
group head is so forgiving let's see if I can get away with it. Wrong but
you really have to push to get the E61 not to perform. Love The Brute
