Topic: Not drinking Homeroast! (24 lines)
1) From: Les
I must ask forgiveness and may have to do penance! I am not drinking
homeroast this morning. Alchemist John dropped off a half pound of
Hairbender blend from Stumptown on Thursday. This is good stuff. It
should be, it is made from similar high quality beans that Tom brings
us. I pulled shots today on "Carlos" (Expobar Office Control) and my
new to me Olympia Cremina. First off, I choked them both with too
fine a grind. Now for the comparison, the Cremina makes a way sweeter
smoother shot. The Expobar makes a shot that brings out the higher
notes of the roast more. Both were excellent shots. The Hairbender
is a great middle of the road blend. However I don't like middle of
the road! I pulled my triple blend and it is a great reminder of why
we homeroast! The old-growth Bourbon from the Nicaragua gave this
shot awesome character, the Brazil creaminess and the Indonesian depth
and complexity all with a nice deep chocolate finish. I won't stop
homeroasting. However it is nice to see a commercial place doing it
right. So never sell yourself short, homeroasting rules.
