...you have to make up the difference out of your own pocket? ...their =
fans don't eat or drink expensively enough?
That just floors me.
I had no idea things were that bad. Years ago I worked 5-6 nights a =
week with a 5 piece electric band until the venues switched to single =
acts with a tape machine. I was blessed with falling in with some =
experienced and talented guys that worked at it. I was naive enough to =
think that playing our absolute best was enough until one night a =
bartender explained that the difference between a "good" band and a "not =
so good" band was measured by the number at the bottom of the night's =
cash register tape. It was kind of crushing to learn that my real job =
as front man was liquor sales.
Eventually it was the old story, the work dried up, we lost our guys one =
by one to day jobs or other bands and eventually gave it up. =
Ironically, now I'm a corporate IT guy and photographer but I produce =
the stage shows for our conventions; I've got sound gear now that I =
would have killed for back then, Mackie and JBL.
What a long strange trip it's been...
You have my respect for sticking it out. Hope to hear you someday,
Michael
