Topic: OT: Any Amateur Radio Operators on the List? (6 msgs / 137 lines)
1) From: me
Hi all!
Just got my first ham ticket (General Class) and was wondering if there
are any fellow hams on the list? Be kinda cool to work someone who is
part of this great community.
Anyway, just thought I'd ask!

Oh, boy! I'm not currently an active ham, but I got K9LHP when I was a high
school freshman in Peoria, IL. Started as KN9LHP in '57, but found it hard
to keep the DX-40's 6146 plate down to 125 mA (@600v), as if 15 watts of
illegal DC made any difference on the receiving end! +0.8dB would not show
up on an S-meter, or be audible.
But I was thinking about the General and the 1st Class Commercial radio
license, and my shop teacher Al Lurie, W9KCB told me I'd better keep squeaky
clean if I wanted to go for the commercial license. Tough enough to get but
easy for Uncle Frank to pull 'em both if I pulled a dumb stunt on the
amateur ticket.
Gotta get current on the R&R and get a ticket out here in Colorado. My
antenna would be about 5,460 feet high on a 50 foot tower here in
Westminster, CO. N9ASL, my older brother, typically had an antenna at 35,000
ft with some Collins gear as an American Airlines captain!
I have to say, Gmail is neat- it has advertisements pertinent to the subject
matter of the email. Now if I could find a source of Svetlana 4CX800A, or
5CX800A tubes, I'd wake up my Viking Thunderbolt linear and DX-100
transmitter.
Cheers and 73 -RayO, aka Opa!
Gotta get back on the air-

Hey Mark,
Cafine and CW Contest work good together. I work mostly CW but you can find me on phone at 3.916 many nights after 9:00pm CST. Congratulations on the Ham Ticket. I'll probably be on SSB tomorrow night sipping on some good Green Stripe that my daughter roasted yesterday!

Yessir. I'd love to chat about roasting on the air sometime. Kinda =
busy at
the moment tending to my wife who broke her ankle recently and is still =
very
much in recovery mode after some surgery on that. E-mail me off-list =
and
maybe we can set up a sked 20-thru-10.

Mark,
This is a bit late - been in Kauai, had to take my own coffee, but that's
another story - I'm a currently inactive ham, AA6VZ. Just need to get my
antenna remounted and hooked up. Usually work DX and contests with 100
watts and a vertical antenna from a less-than-ideal location - guess I just
love the challenge. Current sunspot cycle makes it even more of a
challenge.
This may have already been mentioned, but Jeffrey Pawlan, WA6KBL, was
pictured in the September QST, page 13, re: his 10 GHz setup. No coffee in
evidence, though.
