I have done 2 HG/DB roasts for the Lot 503 and I have noticed the same
thing. That the cracks are muted and they tend to run together but I
haven't been too worried I have been told that the Kenya can handle a
bit more heat w/o destroying it, in fact that is the only coffee I try
to take to FC since that mutes a bit of the very overwhelming brightness
in the cup.
Just got done roasting a batch to 2nd crack. Using the Hot Top. Both
cracks were muted although I did get a detonation or two. Very hard to
tell where first crack ended.
I think I saw someone mention that the African coffees tend to crack
