Topic: I Roast 2 vs. Gene Cafe (2 msgs / 86 lines)
1) From: Timothy Steven
Hi,

I was wondering if any of you more experienced roasters had done a cup comp=
arison between beans roasted in an I Roast 2 and Gene Cafe 1/2 pound drum.

I'm trying to make the decision about which one to buy. I don't really car=
e so much price or even volume of roast. I'm most interested in the best r=
esults.

Does one produce superior coffee? Any thoughts out there?

TR,
Very briefly, I have had the I Roast (v1) since it came out =
and
have had the Gene Café for about 1 to 1.5 weeks now. Just in the =
first week
my experience has been that I notice a lot more body to the cup and
experience the slightest drop in the highs when using the Gene as =
compared
to the IR. That may change over time as I get accustomed to this =
machine.
My choice for moving to the Gene was 1. Reliability in the LONG term (I =
have
owned every variation of roaster that Hearthware has put out) and 2. =
Batch
size. I absolutely love the GC and I hope that continues as time =
passes. I
will say, however, Hearthware does make a good product and I did love =
the
roasters while they were working. To be fair, my IR is still working =
w/o
having to be serviced but it wasn’t used a ton (3 times a week). I =
just
felt it was time to move to a different roaster. Hope this helps a =
little.
