Somehow I suspect both you and your Z&D would be long dead before your tour
ended if actually trying to roast enough to supply the entire carrier
compliment!:-O

Ahh but I have the HG/DB for my larger batches.... and lots of sailors
that are begging me to teach them....just think 4 DB going at once all
making the wonderful home roast .... SM will be getting lots of orders
for the IKE very soon after all I only have a 20# stash right now....
once we get in the Med the mail will be running pretty well. we may even
pool together and get a HotTop. We shall see just how much interest
there is once we pull out next week.
Dennis

3) From: miKe mcKoffee
Even using 4 HG/DB array roasting would be a major challenge if a large
number of the ~6287 crew decide they want to drink fresh roast! Lets see, if
each consumed 2oz roasted coffee a day (barely enough for 4 double shots)
that would be ~789# of coffee roasted per day! Hmmm, maybe you'll need to
get a goodly number of RK Drums and rig them for roasting heated from the
two nuclear reactors:-) Man even then it'd be around 200 RK Drum batches a
day. Your gonna need bigger drums!

Well I am talking to everyone that will listen if they want in they will
have to put forth a bit of effort (I sent 20 sailors home with a
shopping list for HG/DB items) we shall see who comes thru.

Man you could score big time. For each that does come through that'll be 100
CSA Proselyting points and could well set a new record for the most CSA
points awarded at one time!

Just imagine the day when a Probat L50 (up to 200kg/hr capacity) is
installed on
Carriers and Roast Master is a career path MOS!

I can tell you a story of 10 pounds of popcorn poured down the stack of
a gas turbine ship during ... well right before a change of command
ceremony, and the black sooty popcorn floating around ... rubbing up
against those nice pristine dress whites....
a nuke is just another way to boil water for the main engine and
generators...
you need to get the snipes interested. have the HT's make up a sheet of
stainless for you and roast it on the nozzle block of one of the main
engines. We used to cook pizza's that way, and light cigarettes too
from the nozzle block. If that dont work, there are many other ways of
getting 'heat' to roast with..... aux steam comes to mind.
I bet you can get someone to make up a 5 gallon can for you to throw
beans into, and figger some heat source to roast them on. I cooked
stuff on an iron before ... git creative. you kin do it..
then again, i was the person who used to use the test panel in the
electric shop to cook hot dogs with, until one of my children decided
to plug a hot dog into the 440 outlet instead of the 115... wow what a
mess a blowed up hot dog makes ..

Drool! I'd stay in for an extra 10 years if coffee roasting was my job!!!!!
Warning~~~Shameless plug ahead~~~~~~
I know there are a ton of sailors that would love extra greens
to try so any one on stash reduction that is feeling charitable all donations are welcome

I remember one thread about using a cement mixer and a jet engine to do
coffee with... now HERE is the perfect application where that would work
just fine... cement mixer might be out but a 55 gallon drum and an
Allison might do wonders ... don't let the cloud lice lie to you, the
things run just fine off of DFM..

of challenges!

Mike could figure how to do it with the boat's reactor. Think of the
advantage. Coffee that glows in the dark. You can always find your cup at
night.

Luckily, I'm so old (as in bent over and wrinkled up) that this is a
decision the canoe club wouldn't even consider letting me make.
I think roasting for a crew of 80 to 120 would be a considerably more
manageable challenge (even submerged) than the 6000 plus on the 'Ike'.
The suggestion re: an RK drum setup would be good planning.....as a start.

Dennis, sorry but 100 demerits for only staying in an extra 10yrs when
having a Probat L50 at your command:-)
Stash reduction wise too bad you didn't make that request two years ago!
Back then when I started reduction from over 250# would have sent a boat
load. Severely limited but no way curtailed purchases since then. (go
through ~100# greens year) Currently at about perfect just under 100# stash.

Reactor coffee, wow.
Let's roast a batch...
Ill go find Commander Cherenkov so we can light the way to the kitchen.
I bet we can get away with roasting about 15kg at a shot as long as we
don't use tungsten carbide drums.. If ya decide to do the strong coffee
and roast a robusta we better keep it under 10kg a batch.. don't want
3rd crack or 3rd click now do we?
Self heating coffee, it never cools... we might be onto something here.

Plans are coming together for a 60 second burn rocket motor. Chamber
temps reaching 3500 deg F. I can adjust the expansion ration of the bell
to over-expand and give the cement mixer chamber fairly even heating.
The only problem is the ATFE has put my propellant chemicals on the
explosives list. Hmmmm ....

The only reason I said 10 years is that is High year Tenure and the navy would not allow me to
stay longer at that point I would be forced out and then I would become a civilian contractor
doing the same job but for twice the pay!
The demerits should not be imposed for the governments lack foresight in keeping sailors beyond 30 years.

Perhaps I can roast those 789 pounds for you. I'll ask
the area manager at New Process Gear if I they would let
me borrow/use the many heat treat furnaces we have here.
Just have to know if CharBucks roast is okay. hahaha
