Topic: Poppery II Roast & Rest (2 msgs / 39 lines)

I did my first batches with the Poppery II un-modded. I overroasted
both, but not too bad. Those little batches turn on you fast! First was
a 1.75oz batch that went for about 12 mins. Next was a 3.5oz batch that
went for about 6 mins. Hmmm, double the weight, double the speed.
Actually, after 12hrs rest, this India-sumptinorudder has a very nice
taste. Not grassy and raw as I was expecting. A couple questions- how
many minutes in between roasts should I let the machine rest? And, is
3.5oz making the poppery work too hard? It says it handles 4oz of corn
but that lightens up as it pops out and it wouldn't be running for 12
minutes either. At 1.75oz it didn't seem as hot as it should have been
because first crack was very quiet and spread out (although my readings
were 450). I will keeep experimenting and most likely start playing with
its insides.

I suggest that you leave the popper as is until you see a definite reason to
change it. There seems nothing wrong with the roast times, as long as you
can reach second crack. Keep records of everything you do. Do not be afraid
to roast light.
Build a collection of poppers. They may all roast differently so you can
choose the popper to fit the coffee. You can let one cool and roast in
another. Secondhand or thrift store poppers should be disassembled and
washed. Put a drop of oil on the bottom motor bushing.
