Topic: Cleaning a Super Jolly with rice? (5 msgs / 81 lines)
1) From: The Scarlet Wombat
I've not followed too closely this thread of cleaning using rice, but I
have a Super Jolly set for espresso grinding. I've not cleaned it, but am
willing to do so if it is a useful thing. Has anyone used the rice method
on this kind of grinder? Do I have to run some cheap junk beans through
after the rice cleaning to get all risidual rice out?

Yes, have cleaned SJ with Minute Rice. After brushing out residual from
chute etc. flush grinder with a shots worth of beans and use it for the
Bricoletta's post detergent backflush seasoning shot.

Ah Mike, could you render the following from your post in plain English?

flush grinder with a shots worth of beans and use it for the

Thanks, Dan

Ok,
1) After quick cleaning a grinder with Grindz or Minute Rice or oatmeal etc.
there will always be a wee bit of residue from the cleaning agent. Grind
about a shots worth of beans to flush the cleaning agent residue.
2) After detergent backflushing an espresso machine and detergent
soaking/cleaning the portafilter & basket you need to pull a seasoning shot.
So 3) Use the grinder bean's "flush" for the espresso machine's seasoning
shot thereby minimizing any perceived bean waste.

Ah yes, I understand, thank you, good sir. I'm sure my SJ will be happy to
be cleaned out.
