Topic: Leather and Lace Coffee??? (86 lines)
1) From: George Miller
For those of you that still partake in the spirits I havc a couple of
drinks you may enjoy. But be warned, one is "rather mild" and will have you
partying all night. The other one "definitely not mild" will get you laying
horizontal in short order.
What the heck am I talking about??? Here is some background to their
origin.
At one point of time in my life, mid 30's, I was once again single by no
choice of mine. I was never an out going type of person, but I began to
drink rather heavily after loosing all that was of value to me, my wife, 3
kids, huge colonial house, my everything. At the same time I was working at
a transfer case manufacturing plant owned by Chrysler. I was working a
machine called the Monster and it's support machine the Mickey Mouse. The
job required me to lift a 50 pound cast iron casting 5 to 6 times by hand to
complete it. I did on an average of 500 of these cases a night. I was well
built then, 200 lbs, 45 inch chest, 32 inch waist and arms so big they
wouldn't fit shirts that were the correct size for the rest of me. The
shirts had to be custom tailored. At this point I started going out
drinking, something I never did before.
Then came a funeral I had to attend and needed a suit to fit. I was
promptly told I couldn't get a suit. I had too large a drop from chest to
waist. I had to get a sport coat and dress pants. Well, I wanted to start
"dressing the part" of a night lifer. Being a double sign virgo, I had to
really do it right. I started buying tuxedos, ruffled and pleated tux
shirts, and all of the accessories used with tux's.
While going out, I would sometimes mix the tux shirts and accessories with a
leather sports coat or leather coat and pants, or leather biker's jacket. I
also wore custom gold earrings, some going down to my shoulder. Other times
I wore the complete tux outfit with earrings.
Upon going into a new bar one night after work, a really good looking lady
bartender made some drinks for me. The next night I went back and didn't
see her and asked the guy behind the bar if she was there. He said she was,
in the owners office taking to him. He went back and told her a guy at the
bar wanted to know if she was there and could make those drinks for me. She
said, who was it. The reply was you know, that new guy with the leather and
lace. Well, that became my name there but I didn't know I was called that
for about 6 months.
Now you have the background.
After about a year going there, they decided to make a drink named after me.
and here they are.
Leather-n-Lace (keeps ya going}
1 medium size coffee cup
1 shot Sambucca
1 shot Baileys Irish Cream.
put shots in coffee cup, add strong black coffee.
Leather-n-Lace NightCap  {counter acts the above}
1 coffee cup
1 shot Sambucca
1 shot Baileys Irish Cream
1 shot Kaluaha
1+ shot of 100 proof Peppermint Snapps
place all shots in coffee cup and add what ever strong black coffee is at
hand.
There it is, a "somewhat" brief look into my mid 30's and two new drinks for
you.
The only thing I wonder now is how much better they would have been with
some fresh roast? Lets see, made with some Sumatra coffee? How about with
a shot of espresso?
I got it, a Leather-n-Lace with a Sumatra espresso chaser. Or maybe a
Monsooned Malabar chaser??? I know, Toms Monkey Blend espresso chaser.
Then your all ready to monkey around for the rest of the night. When you
want to go to sleep, have a Leather-n-Lace NightCap or two. (No espresso in
or as a chaser}
