I think I have solved my heavy heat gun problem. My heat gun weighs nearly 4
pounds, and has a long handle, which means that it gets very heavy during a
15 minute roast.
There was a discussion a while ago about different ways to suspend a heat
gun. One of the methods mentioned was a hair dryer rack. Ann hangs hers from
the gas grill cover (hope I have it right this time, Ann...).
One thing I didn't like about the methods suggested was that I didn't see a
way to easily adjust the height of the heat gun, which is one of the two
ways of controlling the speed of the roast (the other way being changing the
heat gun heat setting).

I recently got one of these and I am quite sure it is going to work. You
hang it by the round plastic end and tie the heat gun onto the three wires
protruding from the other end. The three wires reel out and back in; the
friction of the reel can be adjusted so that it will support the weight even
of my mega heat gun, and it seems that it will be relatively easy to adjust
the height of the heat gun during the roast.

My heat gun has a slider temp control with an LED readout that is so

depending on how dark I want the roast and how the beans are behaving.
 I keep the bottom heat on high the whole time, though sometimes turn
off all the heat and let the beans coast into FC+.
Don't you love science and lab supply stores?  When I was looking for
a stirrer or a holder that's the first place I went. Please let us
know how it works for you.  It sounds very promising.

Re: the nearly 4 lb heat gun, all I've got to say is, "OY!"
Maybe this is like someone responding to a lister who's having some trouble
with his popper by saying, "Why don't you just buy a Probat?"   But my
Makita 1100 HG is 1.3 lbs.  Yes, it's priced in the low $70s, but it's
really quiet and nearly vibration free.  Consider this when you get some
upgrade itch (pity us poor heat gun roasters, there is so little stuff we
can covet.)  This suggestion doesn't apply to anyone who has an unfavorable
response to holding the HG.  But a lot of the discomfort or annoyance can be
addressed by paying careful attention to the ergonomics such as bowl height
and angle of the HG-holding arm.

I've been thinkng about a tool balancer (or positioner) to help suspend my 
heat gun.  They are used on assembly lines and come in all capacities 
(weight of tool) but haven't seen one before with built-in power wiring...
