If you or your institution have to pay for your trip I would be careful of =
it. Not that it is bad, but it is probably more commercial than might firs=
t appear and the organization that is promoting it is probably somehow bene=
fitting itself. It souds to me to be approximately equivalent to some of t=
hose books wioth titles like "Whose Who in Academic Life in the Southwest" =
that want to include you and then try to sell you the book.=
I'm sorry to bring yet anothe=
r off-topic to the list, but we have such a wide range of list members, I w=
as hoping someone might shed some light on this for me.
I received so=
me info in the mail (well, actually, I sort of forgot about the first, very=
prestigious looking envelope - threw it in the drawer w/my unpaid bills, L=
OL) saying that I have been nominated to go to China (with the Internationa=
l Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Anthropology & Archaeology)!!
=
Which leads me to my question - has anyone ever heard of this organizati=
on - and if so, do you know if it is legit? (and if it is, HOW did I ever g=
et chosen???)
Anyone can, of course, contact me off-list, so we don't =
stray from the subject of coffee (unless, of course, China actually grows c=
offee, which I doubt.)
Thanks everyone -
Lynne (who now MUST get =
back to work... and is thinking that she should REALLY buy a lottery ticket=
 today)

Yeah, well, when I first got it was was reading the letter very
sarcastically (the off-shoot of my Sicilian mom's attitude to be
skeptical - nah, truthfully - she didn't trust anyone) & laughing at
how they addressed it to my 'parents.' (I'm 53).
Then my son said it would be party-time here, from the time I left til =
I got home.
arrgghh!
