Topic: City+ in BBQ Drum (3 msgs / 52 lines)

I use an RK drum. For those who roast a pound or preferably
smaller regarding my question-if you lower the heat at any
time around the beginning of first crack, do you raise it
again at any point or do you hold it until the end? Assuming
you go about a minute past the end of first crack. Thanks.

Jeff, I run my 1# roasts at 470F as measured by a TC. 1st being exothermic
will usually raise temp to around 480F. I compensate to keep temp at 470F,
about a minute after end of 1st for City+.
Type of diffuser you are using will make a difference--the piece of sheet
metal I use is quite a heat sink and to lower temps much more than that at
that stage of the game would have to crack open BBQ lid.

Jeff all grills are unique and the thermometer placment makes a difference
in heat.
I roast small loads up to 1.5 lbs at 450, and when 1st cracks get going I
lower the temp to 430 when the cracks for 1st stop I go 1 min longer for
city+
I actually turn the heat down to low and when it gets to 430 I slighly
adjust the burner to maintain 430.
