Topic: Free Nicaraguan Coffee (7 msgs / 248 lines)
1) From: Eddie Dove
My sister-in-law's sister-in-law just came back from a mission trip to
Nicaragua and brought me about 5 pounds of green coffee beans. Plain, clear
plastic bag; very few defects and smells rather mild. I guess I'll have to
roast some this weekend!

Be sure to let us know how the mystery Nicaraguan coffee tastes!

Recall, way back when Dennis and I first became members of this list and
Dennis mused about Tom having the term "poop aroma" in the cupping log? Now
I know what Tom meant. After 2.5 days rest I uncapped the jar to taste it,
and voila, poop aroma. Distinct taste of cardboard in the cup ... as the
cup cools, there is still a distinct taste of cardboard in the cup ... this
tastes like it was destined for Maxwell House, seriously, that is what came
to mind. Gonna let it rest some more and cup it again.

Well, on the plus side - Cardboard is a step-up from Poop.
It'll make you appreciate SM all the more...

LOL way back when. I still consider my self a newbie after all I have
only roasted with three different methods HG/DB, a Popper and Z&D until
I can get profecient with the RK and the GC and HT and maybe the SC/TO
as well as a few other methods I have alot to learn. As for making
coffee drip pot and AP are all I use currently I still have such a long
way to go my only good grinder is a hand crank I don't own a rocky or a
mazz or even an expresso machine beyond a high end steam toy... I speak
from what I have learned on the list more than what I have experenced.
Way back when.... this is a lifetime quest for me not a short trip to
expert.
To date I have not had a bean I have roasted older than a week most
are gone in 5 days and fresh is all I will drink if I run out inbetween
roasts (Obvioulsy I was too generous that week with the beans) I quit
drinking coffee for a day or two.
Please not in my signature we are finally at the 150 mark!!! Whoo
Hoo!!!! done more than 50 already I can do that 3 more times
