Topic: I Be Roasting Now! (2 msgs / 44 lines)
1) From: James
I just finished two batches in my Bravia and although neither is ready for =
drinking I just wanted to share some of my impressions.

A couple of =
data points: I was roasting outside on a covered deck thus the intake air i=
s significantly cooler than in a kitchen. Also since UPS was late today, ro=
asting did not start until late afternoon and continued 'til dusk. I set th=
e roast to "10" thinking that I could could always stop the roast if necess=
ary.
First roast was 225g of Monkey Blend. Lots of chaff and it was a=
bit hard to hear first crack. Roasted very evenly although I would peg thi=
s as just this side of FC (-FC). No sign of oil on any of the beans althoug=
h a few looked close.

Second roast was 225g of Colombian Huila. Agai=
n, very even roasting. Much easier to hear first crack. No signs of oil on =
any beans and none were close. Tomorrow morning the tasting begins for this=
!

The machine itself is more than I expected. It seems like the drum=
speed is variable and speeds up and slows down at different times during t=
he roast. Thus there are a lot of parameters under adjustment during the ro=
ast: drum speed, exhaust doors open or closed, and the temperature with the=
 heating element being adjusted.

What are the settings that some of =
you are using to achieve a particular degree of roast with the Bravia??? My=
machine made quite a loud "thwack noise" when I plugged it in and it also =
makes a rather loud noise when a roasting cycle is completed. Does your mac=
hine do the same?

James,
Congratulations! Be sure to let us know how those coffees turn out and keep
us informed of your progress and experience with the Bravia.
Just remember, if you can't sleep tonight, it's not the caffeine ... you
haven't tried the coffee yet ... unless, in response to Aaron's query, you
have proven that there is a lot of caffeine in the smoke!
