I have just had to order my third chaff collector bases for each of
my i-Roast and i-Roast 2 (already had to replace the pot on the i-
Roast). Previously, the original c.c. bases had chipped when they
accidentally fell on to a soft pine deck; this time, the Bakelite on
each has spontaneously failed merely by being used. A chunk broke off
one and the other has begun to crack, causing a chunk to wiggle
loose. I have had to use scotch-tape to hold the chunk back in place
and cover the cracks, but the heat will eventually melt it.
Hearthware does not seem to feel this is a defect, but that it's in
the nature of the beast for Bakelite--and less brittle plastics would
melt and warp under the high heat of roasting (apparently, fracturing
is the lesser of two evils).
