Topic: non-avian impact of caffine and CO2 (5 msgs / 174 lines)
1) From: james Ducey
we have a small battalion of chipmunks laying siege to our garden and bird feeder. there is actually a tiny path they have worn in the lawn going from the garden to the bird feeder. these guys pack their faces full and haul off the bird seed 24/7. they are set to make it through the next winter by early june. definitely type A's when it comes to survival skills.
i roast outside and in the course of cooling a batch a few beans will always escape. between batches, while i'm waiting for my bbq roaster to level off at my starting temp i'll flick the beans off the porch into the shrubs. now, i've never seen them actually take any but with the level of industry these chipmunks operate at, i'm sure each and every wayward guat, kenya, and sumatra is stashed away...mixed in with the copious piles of bird seed.
mid-winter i fully expect to see hoards of highly caffeinated chipmunks running circles in the snow after they chomp into one of those little full city beauties they have stashed away. because the chipmunks don't have re-sealable foil bags with one way valves i don't think there will be enough Co2 left in the beans to cause any adverse effects. even with fresh beans being pilfered i have yet to be kept up at night by sudden fits of chipmunk belching and flatulence brought on by the bloom caused by beans mixing with chipmunk saliva.

do I see the beginnings of a possible SNL skit, perhaps an animated
"TV Funhouse" segment?
