Ken,
I've been using my Ronco 4000 with a roasting drum kit for some time
now. I had the same problem with not enough heat until someone (Les?)
on the list suggested getting another heat source from
MorElectric.com. I added a 750W infrared "Full Trough Emitter", wired
it up to a timer from a cheapo toaster oven from WallyWorld, placed
it in a galvanized electric outlet box, and voila! More heat. Brought
the roast times down to 18-20 for 10 oz of greens, 24-26 for a full
pound. A couple of weeks ago I put in another 750W heater. Now it's
almost too fast-10.5 minutes for 10 oz, 14 min for a full pound (to
FC). Might end up putting a variac in-line to slow things down just a
bit.
Hope this helps.

This sounds interesting, I will check it out. I have been thinking about
replacing the original rod heaters with a fast acting IR heater for a long
time.
