Yes! I have a reference to the cooking of skunk in "Mrs. Rorer's 
Philadelphia Cook Book" 1886 ed.  Under "Raccoons and Skunks" the rather 
prim entry reads as follows:
These are eaten by many people, but as I have had no experience in 
cooking the above animals, I will merely state that they may be cooked 
in all the ways rabbit are, and served the same.
Mrs. R.  also pontificates, as such is her style,  for two pages on 
coffee.  Most sounds familiar; some her own notions.  Quaint as this is, 
I will not bore our readers with quoting it.  Bernard C. Gerrard
