I've never seen "The Book", so until someone shows it to me, I ain't
followin' it.
When my kids used to say, "Mothers don't do that", I asked them to
show me the book. They never did find that book!
Happy New Year We're off to Don Guido's for another of my passions.
We eat baked prawns in garlic and butter sauce with crusty rolls to
soak up the butter, an absolutely delicious, herby, minestrone with
croutons and Parmesan cheese, garlic bread, Cesar salad, lobster
ravioli and/or penne del mare (salmon and penne pasta in a dill sauce)
and will bring our tiramisu and hazelnut cheesecake home to eat
accompanied by our home roast.
Take care,
Ann

That sounds wonderful!
We've just got finger food. Cold vegetables & dip, fresh fruit, coldcuts,
cheese & pickles. Some cold shripm & crab. We'll toast the year in with a
bit of ice wine.

Finger food here too--taquitos, mini-empanadas, caviar, shrimp,
veggies and dips, patés, salami, cheeses, olives, various and sundry =
chips and crackers, candy, cookies, baklava and brownies. Might
chill an eiswein, but the guests prefer beer and bubbly--which, alas, =
I must chill in the fridge to conserve ice (just got the icemaker
working again a few minutes ago. Poor fridge and freezer are crammed =
to the gills. Completely out of homeroast except for a little decaf
and espresso--but I still have a pound and a half of Costco Seattle
Mt. Blend. Livia is at the ready--haven't decided if I'll also press =
Silvia into service.

I made up something like a Creole with cubed Sea Bass and Shrimp served over
steamed rice - turned out really well.
I've started serving rice formations - tonight was a hollowed bowl shape.
but the funny things is that every time i make one of these, i keep thinking
about close encounters with the mashed potatoes ;- )
happy new year.

Ann,
Don Quido's ?? I've a 'special' dinner owed to Loretta, in the near
future......this sounds like the place. Address?? Now that Hwy 35 is
patched up again I can get to your neck of the woods over the back side of
the mountain fairly rapidly.....so the logistics would work out.

Hey Mike,
I sure hope 35 stays open. The Oregonian had a photo and said with
melting glaciers they wonder if just fixing the road will do.http://mysite.verizon.net/res8nubd/donguidos/is the website.

The food is fabulous!
Of course, I looked at the website and there is everything but a
physical address. It's just "mountain time", nothing exact and time
is not an issue. They are only open Thurs-Sun this time of the year.
It's the reason we live here. It's the old Log Lodge across the street
from the Dairy Queen in Rhody. The proprietor will describe his dishes
in detail and you'll be drooling by the time he's finished. We each
get our own baked prawns and crusty roll appetizer as we are pigs and
we can't resist the fantastic aroma. That's $8 each. The entrees run
around $20-25 each, so we only only go once or twice a year. I just
read on their site, the "locals" get 30% off on Thursdays, so maybe
we'll go some Thursday for the minestrone, salad and garlic bread for
$8 each and then dessert and get 30% off. We used to love their
coffee....before we started homeroasting.
Take care and Happy New Year, Mike.

And from there to our house, drive 2 miles west on Hwy 26, turn right
at the Zigzag Inn onto Lolo Pass Rd, go 1 mile, turn left onto Barlow
Trail Rd., go 1 mile and turn right onto Bailey Rd. We're the first
driveway on the right. (503)-622-0160. We answer the phone "Prime

Ann,
It'll be a while before I get it organized. When I do, I'll check with
you...could meet you there if you're up for it.......or stop by for a coffee
after.
I was glad to hear you guys got your power back etc. etc.
