Ken,
Sorry to hear about your heart attack and bypass surgery, but glad
you caught it in time and have begun to reverse the processes that
may have caused it. More and more these days, even in individuals
who seem to be doing everything correctly, coronary artery disease
still manifests itself--and the culprit turns out to be something as
low-level and systemic as inflammation. (That's why a c-reactive
protein test is as important as a blood lipid profile, despite the
fact that the clueless insurance companies haven't started covering
it yet). Taking or eating ginger and turmeric can help reduce
inflammation tremendously; and it's not just sugar that is the
culprit but the high-fructose corn syrup that most food manufacturers
use in darn near everything--it has been shown that fructose can
actually lessen sensitivity to (or even block) leptin and CCK, two
hormones that tell us we're full. You are wise to avoid all "white
food" except for tofu and lowfat or nonfat dairy, but white sugar
isn't the only bad actor in this play: gotta read those labels,
because fructose and trans fats hide EVERYWHERE!

	Second the advice about SM's decafs--my heart-patient friends can't
believe they're "unleaded!"
