1) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
Okay, it looks like there is a delay and I can't pick up the coffee
until Wednesday next week. I thought we could get it today but they
have to unload the container first. Oh well... I did cup the new lot
sample, and it is outstanding. for some reason, it doesn't wallop me
like the first, but I think a lot of it is me (I was a bit under the
weather for a few days earlier this week). I knocked 1 pt off the
score but still its over 90 which is rare for me! We have another
natural Brazil (Bourbon cultivar too) coming in Wed, as well as a
Peru I think is really special. People have been asking about Kona -
I did approve an excellent Kowali Estate sample, but Moki's tasted
green to me, and Purple Mountain, well, they are old hippies and do
things their own way ! I cupped a couple Greenwells and a Thunder
Mountain that weren't bad but I just didn't get excited about them.
Koa, some other odds ands ands, some Kau samples, and a bizzare 14.8%
moisture content sample from Dole came in, all sub-par. My feeling
anyway is that Jan and Feb are better for making Kona choices - the
competition (which I diodnt do this year) is ridiculously early, and
everyone wants a Kona in Dec for Christmas, but WE do what's right
for the coffee here, not for the convenience of a shopping season -
Harump! ;-) Anyway, I'll update that. Oh, Colo COE lots are here -
need to finish the reviews. I paid a small fortune to have the coffee
vacuum packaged in Colombia to avoid the notorious humidity of the
port there (shipping containers have had a way of getting "stuck" in
Barranquilla for weeks, effectively ruining the coffee by steaming
it.) Anyway, it totally worked- the coffee was air shipped and came
in outstanding and fresh. They are going to be in the 8-10 dollar
range so reasonable compared to the #1 Guatemala El Injerto and the
#2 Salvador Los Planes.
