Relaxing at the Garden City Hotel this morning after a hectic couple
of days (we flew in to NY for my father-in-law's upcoming cardiac
cath and possible surgery). Yesterday, we did not have any coffee
maker or even cups in the room (and I'd only brought a Swissgold
basket filter, Aeropress and mini-kettle) so we were stuck with room
service coffee. But we had a coffeemaker and cups brought in, so last
night I made a single Aeropress of Red Line decaf that was so good I
drank it as "espresso." This morning, I just made a "potlet" of
Uganda Bugisu, City+, dripped double-strength and diluted with hot
water. My mother-in-law (who is staying at the hotel with us) is
amazed--she has never had anything better than Maxwell House at home.
I tried to explain that I roasted it myself, but she is quite deaf,
so I just smiled and let her enjoy it. Wait'll room service brings
her some real cream instead of Coffee-Mate!

Best wishes from one having a recent first hand experience under the knife.

I am still waiting for my first taste of regular coffee since Dec 18. I have
some decaf Colombian which is awful. Three roasts had to be tossed. Hoping
for better results from a Kenya decaf today.

Get the Guatemala Huehue, El Salvador, Sulawesi or Costa Rica decafs--
all phenomenal as single origins. I find the Colombia is a "blender."

Try some of the Panama WP Decaf Panamaria Estate -- that's one of my
favorites and I just ordered some more.
I'm still looking for a decaf that I wouldn't mind sharing with my
mother in law. I keep finding ones that I like...
