Oh boy, I'm sticking my head in a noose here.
I' m in the Pennsylvania Dutch area and the saurkraut issue is a nice pork 
loin simmered for hours in saurkraut. 
Great, now I want to brew coffee and  whip up a batch of pork and kraut.

Ok last kraut post from me I promise, but you are like up there in mecca.
 my wife is pa native and we get up there to eat and look at the amish at
least once a year  lots of good food not to mention home made root beer
