I am likely the only person in the world that does cowboy coffee in the
microwave on a daily basis. Use a pyrex measuring cup, 2 cup capacity. For a
12 ounce mug, add water to the 1 1/3 cup level, and add the coffee to this
cold water. For a 700 watt microwave, the first heat will be 1.25 minutes,
stir to disperse the grounds. The second heat is also 1.25 minutes, stir
again. The third heat continues until you see the first bubble breaking in
the foam layer, stir until any fizzing stops. Turn off the carousel to make
seeing easier. The last heat may be only 20 to 30 seconds until the foam
becomes bubbly. Stop the heat immediately or the coffee will boil over. At
this point the coffee is 200 to 205F. Remove from the microwave and stir
frequently for 1 minute, then allow 30 seconds to settle. Pour into a mug,
the coffee will reach drinking temp in about another minute. If you have
problems with grounds not settling then you must grind finer. Tune the grind
and amount of coffee to your taste.
