I've not used any sleep aids like ambien and melatonin, but I did use 5-HTP
quite successfully to help regulate my sleep cycle. It's not a compound that
will put you to sleep, but it triggers the release of things that will
_allow_ you to sleep when you want to (if the differentiation makes any
sense). I took it for a couple of months and it apparently served to
kick-start my system into releasing the right chemicals at the right times
on its own. It worked well for me, but I'd check with a doc first just to
make sure. It has some interactions with several meds that I know of.
Scarily enough, milk and cookies are an ideal bedtime snack; the carbs in
the cookies plus the bit of tryptophan in the milk will help you be sleepy.
