Topic: No more store bought espresso for me (20 lines)

Well, I took the plunge and set out to experiment with my old quirky Italian
pump espresso machine ( I still have not made the decision which machine to
upgrade to). In preparation I roasted some SM Monkey blend 2 days ago. I
have just spent the last 45 min tweaking my grind, tamp and coffee
measurements to get a 25 sec. pour on a double shot. I can tell you even
from the first trial grind, I got crema! I ended up with a beautiful golden
crema that topped off my delicious espresso. I marvelled at the ribbon like
pattern of rich dark espresso mixed with the golden crema as it flowed out
of the portafilter. At the conclusion, I discovered that I needed to put
more coffee in the portafilter than is the standard (I read this little tip
in one of the last chapters of Kenneth David's Espresso book). I have never
extracted such a wonderful espresso from any whole bean coffee I have
purchased. No more store bought for me.
