Topic: OT excessive sugar intake causes heart attacks (44 lines)
1) From: Ken Mary
Sorry for the OT, please limit on-list responses, feel free to email me. I
will try to make this my last OT regarding heart health.
This article was coincidentally published on Dec 25 2006, the same day that
I was released from the hospital.http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james52.htmMy initial conclusion (my message of Jan 1 2007) that excessive intake of
sugary snacks caused my heart attack is probably correct. The article claims
that sugar interferes with the normal function of the immune system. Sugar
also interferes with production of ribose which is a vital component in
generation of energy in heart muscle. Vitamin C counters the effects of
sugar when sugar consumption is low, but has no effect when sugar
consumption is excessive. A quote from the article: "Excessive sugar intake
is now regarded as the number one risk factor for females[3] and the number
two risk factor for males in the causation of heart attacks."
The article mentions the importance of vit B6 in oral health. Some cv
disease is correlated with gum disease. I had bleeding gums early in life
and found that vit C slowed but did not stop the bleeding. Years later in my
20's I began taking vit B6 50mg per day for reducing homocysteine, and found
that my bleeding gums were totally healed. This effect is directly linked to
my B6 use and nothing else. I mentioned this to my dentist a few years ago
and he shrugged it off.
Unfortunately, Howenstine appears to have gone off the deep end with this
article:http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james50.htmAnd also with this and other articles suggesting that military use of
depleted uranium has spread toxic levels of radiation over the entire globe
equivalent to the radiation from 82,000 Nagasaki scale bombs since 1991:http://www.newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james49.htmWhether or not this sheds bad light on the James52 article and Howenstine
himself, each of us must decide on our own.
