Tom's new baby announcement and Aaron's recent post about Tom's boy running
around on caffeine made me think of something.
My grandson started munching roasted coffee beans (just a couple) around
2yrs old. He's 3 now and still asks for coffee beans to munch when he sees
me getting some out for a brew. I've never seen a child that young (or most
adults for that matter) that loved to munch coffee beans. Kids are what
keeps us young that's for sure and I sure do treasure my grandsons.

My son has done the same. He will be 4 next week.

Last year when I got home and started roasting, I offered my then 6 year old
daughter a bean after I had finished a roast - she crunched it, made a
hilarious face and proceeded to drink from the water dispenser on the front
of the fridge since she couldn't wait to get a cup...

Needless to say, she doesn't take me up on offers of a bean anymore.

let me add my congratulations to Tom and Maria on the birth-we have 3 and
it is the greatist thing in the world. I also have two of the three that
love coffee. I let them split an espresso on ocassion and they love it

Last year I finally convinced my 12 year old nephew to try a bean, he is now
hooked, won't drink coffee but will eat the beans. I have sinced turned my
16 year old neice onto coffee, instead of the stuff she was drinking. When I
was little my grandparents used to make cafe au lait and put it in my
bottle. I have always loved coffee, even when dad would only let me drink
it black, hoping it would cure me of my addiction. He just made me love it
more, especially when I got chicory coffee, stuff you could stand a spoon
in.

All the talk about kids & coffee---one of my older daughter's first words: HAW hee (she couldn't pronounce the hard 'C' nor the 'F', so subbed an 'H' instead). The younger daughter knows what it's all about, however: she's the one who ranks my espresso based upon the crema (flavor, body, and persistence).

Congratulations, Tom & Maria! Another writer said it best: you don't know how deep love can be just yet, but you will. That's a lucky boy you've got there.

  Cheers,
  Paul

Gordy's first words, after Mama, Dada, Na-na and Tabby, were Putnam,
Safeway, fretboard and coffee. Heaven only knows.....
