I did an inventory this weekend. Not counting the two medium sized drawers
of small one pound bags and smaller, I have 647lbs of greens that cover 123
different origins/farms/estates from all over the world. I am in stash
reduction mode now, that is way to much coffee.
How much is in your stash?

647 pounds...!? What is your usage level? (Maybe you need to open up
a coffee shop.)
I estimate it at about 25-30# at present. We use about a pound to
1-1/2# a week at home and office.
I am in stash reduction mode also. My new goal is to keep a stash
level of about 20# total of "stuff we drink regularly always want on
hand" and a floating stash of maybe 5 to 15# of the really
interesting-looking stuff as it comes available in 1# and maybe 2#
size lots.
I intend to order at least one or two 1/2#-sized sampler packs a year,
since they always have stuff that I would be hesitant to buy outright.
It forces me to try new stuff. (Yes, I am definitely a creature of
habit.)

I have to ask whether this is a personal inventory or are you a coffee
seller?
My household consumes 2-4 pounds a week and typically I have 1-4 months
supply.

7) From: Brett Mason
Thank you Ken!
You so totally made my day. I am in a very calm, staid, corporate
environment, and I am not really encouraged to burst out laughing this close
to the COO's office. But you pushed me to the line, and a tad over.
My 75# looks very timid and tiny, and I suddenly feel like I am barely
nurturing my needs, not my wants!

I weighed my Sea bag at 82.5 pounds last week and I am roasting 3#
twice
a week right now
I think I have 24 different coffees currently
(I also have a vac sealed 20# stash at home, not currently counted in
my
stash, waiting for June)

Important to note the difference between greens "stash" and greens "supply".
Stash is strictly for personal household consumption, supply refers to any
greens allocated for sales and does not count towards stash. Weight of stash
isn't important either, but what is important is how long the stash is
projected to last. Personally I now target 12 to 18 months max, which
equates to about 150# max stash. With re-stocking 48# earlier this month
currently about 120#, down from way too much a few years ago over 250#.

Now that I am using an Exel spread sheet to track my stash, I have better
control over ordering. Current Kona supply was lower than I thought, so I
ordered some today. Columbia supply was very low, so I didn't feel bad
about ordering the Cup of Excellence offerings. I am currently over
stocked in Brazil and under stocked in Indonesian coffees. I am down to my
last 2 pounds of coffee from India. I would like to have my stash between
70 and 100 pounds. With all of the excellent coffee's that Tom has been
bringing our way, I am going to have to be a little more discriminating.

Now that's funny in a warped sort of way. I haven't used my coffee Excel
spreadsheet in a couple years. Started using one when I first started home
roasting, and watched it accurately list and track greens, stash peaking at
63 different greens weighing IIRC 270 some odd pounds. When I went on
earnest stash reduction a couple years ago quit using the spreadsheet,
weird. Been meaning to start using it again but just haven't taken the time
to inventory, weigh and enter everything again...
I just know if the greens won't fit on my three drawer coffee greens cart
(max about 50#) plus over flow in three foot horizontal file cabinet drawer
(max about 80# and virtually full now) stash is too big! At one time an
additional way over 100# in cardboard boxes but no more...

That could be a List record!!
I've had a vision about this situation...

List: What is your confession my son?
CoffeeGeek: I have to confess that I have 647lbs of green beans in my stash
at home. Have I committed a coffee sin?
List: You bet your semi-washed dry process you have. For your sin, you
must send 10-lbs to each person that replies "I forgive you" until your
stash is below 100-lbs.
CoffeeGeek: Once I've reached 100-lbs, what do you suggest I do?
List: Go forth and sin some more. ;-)

My stash is puny, but it seems to add up quickly considering I've been doing
this just over a month...
11 varietals, a little over seven pounds. Give or take, mind you. I need to
get a scale now...
