My HWP replacement finally came after a nearly month and a half wait. I was
pretty nervous when I fired it up for the first time, but it worked fine.
I've only run a couple batches through it yet, but so far so good. Man, I
had forgotten how loud it is after using a Fresh Roast as a backup--with
that the 2nd crack was usually fairly obvious, but I'm going to have to
retrain my ear for the noisy HWP.
Fingers crossed,
Andy

Just a thought--whenever I send something to a manufacturer for replacement, I
always mark the original discreetly in a couple of spots so that I can identify
it if they send the same (or just with some new parts) back to me.
For what it's worth, Hearthware did, indeed, send me an entirely new unit back
when I got my one and only replacement in Feb of 2000.

Heh, that's a good idea. I actually noticed that there are a couple of
marks/scratches on the replacement base, which make me think it's not new,
but I can't remember if my old one had those. They had said they would send
a replacement, not fix my broken one, but...
Scheming up devious ways to secretly mark my replacement base,
Andy ;)

Yeah, I do that even when I have my vehicle in for repairs. When they
show me the old parts I can tell if I'm being had or not.
Saved me an alternator once. They said they had replaced it. They had
not, my mark was on it.
