Topic: A couple of suggestions (4 msgs / 108 lines)
1) From: Keith Parker
I posted this last night but inadvertantly did it from a different email
address.
Hi Tom, (and others)
I had a couple of minor suggestions about the new shopping cart system:
1. Make UPS ground (residential) the default standard shipping method.
I rarely need coffee beans so quickly that I have to have them shipped
next-day. But if it is the default, I might do it unintentionally.
2. On the basket contents page, if you change quantities for multiple items,
then click update, it only updates the quantity next to the item you just
clicked "update" for. There should be one update button for the whole page
that updates for all quantities.
3. I was at the checkout stage and I wanted to delete a few items. It was
not clear how to do this. Eventually I tried clicking the "Basket Contents"
button which took me to a page where I could change quantities. It would be
nice if there were an instruction like, "Press the 'Basket Contents' button
to change quantities at any time"
4. I would prefer to have my credit card number as part of my customer
information. This could be an optional field for people. Those that want to
make that info part of their account can, those that don't simply leave it
blank.
Lastly, this system is a really huge improvement over the old. I now
understand why you haven't responded to any of my emails lately--you've been
working on this!
Great job.

I don't get mine residential and I hate it when a vendor who should
know better sends it so marked and it costs me an extra dollar. Grr.

Hi Keith,
Thanks for the feedback! This is GREAT
<Snip>
You will find that there are some things I can do, and some the system just
woint allow without serious code-monkeying. The best I could so was to put
UPS before USPS, but I cant get Ground to show up first...
<Snip>
No can do ...
<Snip>
I will notify people of that. Its true, the "View Cart" is where you can
change  quanitties and delete....
<Snip>
Not an option, its just best for security if the numbers are transient, not
stored on it. The customer info is all on the SSL-enabled Secure server
though.
As you can see, there are some real contraints I have to work in to do
this. And even if I seriously got into recoding it (you can) it would
create more trouble.... and I was trying to make less work, not more! :-)

Tom,
If you can edit the text for the shipping types, put some type of character,
like a bullet or an asterisk, at the beginning of the text you want to sort
to the top. This is a common technique to force text to sort differently
than it might otherwise. The fact that UPS appears before USPS indicates
that the list is sorting alphabetically.
