Topic: "OT" Rocky grinder (21 msgs / 530 lines)
1) From: GHolli7210
Hi gang just a question about the screw holes in the hopper of the Rocky
grinder, they seem to me to be too deep. When I grind beans there is always a
couple beans left in the holes that I need to dig out with a tooth pick.
Any suggestions on how to block the deep dark craters in the Rocky hopper?

I took short pieces of scotch tape and simply covered them. Easy to =
peel off when I clean and keeps the beans moving down to the grinder.

I haven't tried it yet (only had my Rocky for a few days) but I
understand you can just take out that whole plastic piece. I think
its just a "finger guard". I'll try it and let you know,

Ya know hermit - those beans go rancid. So why not inject the taste of
plastic/electrical tape, rather than the rancid bean?
OMG I opened the can...

The guy who sold me his Rocky removed the finger guard and stuffed
foam earplugs into the screw recesses. Like an idiot, I thought they
were just for packing, and removed them. Haven't been able to stuff
them back in. I understand that they can, if they stay in, keep the
beans from falling into the recesses.

Maybe you don't know how to work foam earplugs. You roll them between your
thumb and finger to make them small, then quickly stuff them in place, and
let them expand again.

Sandy foam ear plugs are designed to be disposable. That is, they will =
absorb contaminants and can not be cleaned. They will eventually absorb =
coffee oils and become rancid themselves. It is better to remove the =
finger guard and cover the screw heads with Scotch Tape. The tape dries =
and becomes brittle thus making it easy to remove for the monthly deep =
cleaning and Minute Rice run.

Finger guard? Finger guard? We don't need no finger guard!!!
Actually, I never thought of it as a finger guard (who would stick their
finger in there, anyway?)
It's really a
"keep-the-beans-from-popping-out-when-you-forget-to-put-the-lid-on" guard.
That's my story and I'm schticking to it.
Larry
P.S. I removed the "keep-the-beans-from-popping-out" guard a while ago, too.

When I first got my Rocky, I used something ( Fun Tack is one brand.
There are others) that's used by kids in school to hang pictures on
the wall. It's a putty of some kind that is non-toxic and very pliable.
I have since taken that out and am currently using Scotch Tape...
