Topic: housekeeping: SM site down, and customer log-ins (5 msgs / 118 lines)
1) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
Hi all,
The web site was shy last night, and made itself unaccessible for
around 2 hours. We talked to it, and it agreed not to go into hiding
ever again. Or at least we hope. Seriously the server was down for a
bit and is fine now. Actually, what was going on is that we were
being transfered to a better server box, so hopefully performance
should improve a bit. Unrelated: This morning I had to do some
database maintenance and took the shopping cart offline for 30
minutes. It all went well, but what I discovered in the process is
that the file that holds our customer list had grown too large! Huge!
(I know some of this is because 1 person might have several log-ins,
having forgotten their username and password. Also, we have a fair
amount of people who don't roast, come along, order some filters or
something, and never return.).
Anyway, I was forced to randomly remove a big chunk of the customer
log-ins, which might mean that your log-in no longer exists. That
will mean you need to recreate it, input your address information. I
apologize for this! There was NO OTHER WAY. We can't sort records by
date, by last use, by anything. A mass deletion of older logins was
all I could do. Anyway ... Go ahead and use the same usernames as
previous, if you care too. Also, none of this has anything to do with
payment information. Our system is ideal: it stores address
information separate from payment information, and removes the later
after each batch of orders.
I know, some of you like it saved so you don't have to input it
again. To this end, we are going to experiment with adding Google
Checkout as another option. We'll see if it works. No gurantee on
that, because Google basically replaces Verisign as processor, and
makes you use their own system. But I hope it works so we can give
ya'll the option. Are we helping Google to take over the world? I
just don't know ;-) -Tom 10/23 am

Tom,
I could NOT recreate my login information using the newest version of
Firefox (Firefox 2.0.0.2) as I got the following message.
"Alert
Firefox can't connect securely to id38.securedata.net because the
site uses an older, insecure version of the SSL protocol."
I was able to recreate the login information from Safari but when I
tried to login with Firefox (my preferred browser) I got the same
message as above. Of course I will still be able order coffee using
Safari but thought you might want to be aware of the issue.

The new 2.0.0.2 is screwing up many of my online passwords and logins. I have redone most but not tried the SM site. I will go see what happens if I try to login.

Ginny,
I suspect the problem is the newer version of Firefox does NOT use
SSL 3.0 Encryption Protocol with no option to use SSL 2.0. I am still
able to login using my old version of Firefox which can use both SSL
3.0 AND SSL 2.0 protocols.
