And I am bummed, ;-(( Hi everyone I have been lurking and learning
for a while here, mostly because of my interest in home roasting and
espresso, I have a Silvia recently PIDed. I grind or use to with a
Solis M Plus I just upgraded it with there free (stronger) adjustment
ring and had to add a few shims to calibrate the grinder. everything
seemed fine I tried it and it ran great? without beans, after a few
seconds of normal grinding it started to ratchet loudly and would not
turn the burrs just this awful racket , I disassembled it twice more to
check if I missed anything but it all looks good and with out beans it
even runs and sounds fine. But add the beans and with in seconds its
back to nothing but noise........ and now I've got nothing .. I
allready emailed Joe at Baratza, and hope to get some form of
restitution but the grinder is just over 2 yrs. old (25 months) so out
of warranty but way to young to die. Has anybody had anything like
this and has anybody advise as to what to try, I can't afford a new one
or a big repairbill, and in my opinion this shopuld not have happened
after only a pound off coffee per week for 2 yrs. I hope Joe will come
through for me, I must say their service and speed were great when it
came to supplying the kit.
Best regards, Ed
PS. Vicky did you take "Pebbles to Joe at Coffetec, on the south side

Can you go back to the old adjustment ring?
Roger (hint: it's been OK for two years)

I find that the SM+ is very finicky about reassembly--there have been
times when the adjustment ring was practically a nanometer off and
the thing would refuse to power on. Keep trying, but do call Baratza.
(Note: I can't figure out how to use the kit--am a technomoron--so am
still just using mine as an SM+).
