Early Kenyas were disappointing. Last year, their were some
outstanding lots early in the Main Crop. Not this year , but we have
one lot "on the water" that was excellent, and that should be here in
2-3 weeks. Now we are entering prime time for the main crop, and last
weeks cupping table was incredibly good. In a way, it can throw you
to have that many great Kenyas on one table. It was 18 lots, and I
thought 5 were incredible and put in bids. I guess others agreed,
because I only got 3 (which is actually a pretty good result). We are
seeing some of the really bright Nyeri region coffees showing up now,
but last weeks buys were Kirinyaga (2) and Muranga. These are more
black currant, juicy, winey lots. Those will come in about 5 weeks.
Today is another cupping, and I would expect it to be good too ...
By the way, I struggle to keep up with the cupping log sometimes,
since i find it faster to use paper than my laptop. So only about 1/4
of what I cup is getting into the log. Still, I think it gives a good
example of what I am looking at...
