Topic: Coffee Depletion (3 msgs / 220 lines)
1) From: Brett Mason
Sipping my Colombia Organic Cauca La Esperanza, drip brewed from my
Clarity, I realized "I am out of roasted..." OOPS... OK so it's
Saturday morning, and I realize that have succumbed to the Winter
Popper Fever. Maybe you have too...
Every couple of days, you roast another couple loads in the popper.
Goes faster than you like, but it's FreakinFreezin outside and you're
not really out to enjoy the natural surroundings of single digit
temperatures and swirling snow. You backhand an inch of white joy off
the cabinet on the back porch, position Popp-2, load, lock and
power-up... The beans aren't moving, so you attack with the wooden
spoon, nudging a bit, coaxing the dance which precludes fire. Finally
you put the spoon under one side of the popper, tilting enough for the
reluctant beans to begin to mingle - much like 7th grade boys at their
first Jr. High dance.... Get inside, it's FreakinFreezin out there
stupid! Soon follows the devilish tasklist which pulls the ADD Dad
away from roasting and so often leads to smoke signal merit badge
pursuits, so I go to the Microwave and set the timer for 6 minutes. I
should be back in time to rescue the beans at around City+... and
soon there is coffee to cool and store. Repeat every second or third
day...
So this week was busier, and without roasting, we just kept brewing
and drinking. Images of The Last Pot: Rover begging in front of an
empty bowl; Jesus holding up a cup, with the twelve disciples along
one side of the table, all realizing they had no coffee - bring him
water and hope he turns it again?... Yes tough times ahead. So I've
loaded up my home-made drum with 2.5lb of Juan Francisco, and they're
roasting away in my drum.... Target is about a 20 minute roast, with
12 to get past tan, 6 to get past cinnamon, and the last few to find
our way past First crack and almost into second. I pulled up Sweet
Maria's to be reminded of City+ per Tom. I showed my 9-year old the
Degree Of Roast pictorial, and we also looked at the Spider-Chart to
understand where we are headed today... There's about 2 minutes left
in my roast, so I better get there. The cooling tray is on the
granite counter ready to play heat-sink, and my 2lb result should get
me a week to ten days... AND Juan Francisco is no-more, until Tom
gets another lot...
So I'm off to snake the beans off the spit, and pull into a completed
supply of golden nectar...
Cheers,
Brett

Single digits... wow I'm sorry for your loss.
I roasted the other night in celebration of the equinox - high 70's and
15-20 mph winds at 9pm. Perfect weather by my barefoot index.
I'm thinking it must be a UV index of 10+ as I look out the window while
enjoying the third espresso of the morning. This one was a blend of Migongo,
Lintong, and a curiously sweet Brasilian - I think I'll christen it a Blue
Bongo and head outdoors.
Cheers

The remainder of my life precludes me from roasting every 2-3 days. I save
the glory of smelling like ive been running through a house on fire for
Saturday or Sunday mornings. :) then again, I don't have the pressures of
serving Jesus and his disciples!
