I was going to purchase a Technivorm (TV) Moccamaster CD (MCD) from our
hosts but Tom is sold out. The only TV SM has in stock is the Clubline
KB-741 in graphite. With the exception of the basket switch, are the
differences between the MCD and KB-741 primarily cosmetic? In other words,
if I decide not to wait for a new shipment from Tom's suppliers and go for
the KB-741 now, will I be sacrificing brew quality? I presently preheat (by
running just water) through a cheap-o west bend 4 cup cone with a SwissGold
filter. Thoughts?

Kevin,
All of them have the same / similar guts and brew to the same
standards. The Moccamaster CD and the GCS have the same filter basket
(no switch) and the others us the filter basket with the switch.
There is some difference when using the thermal Carafe (which has been
updated recently), as it has to nestle up next to a button. All of
them ship with the 9-hole shower arm.
Hope this helps ...

My KB 741 (10c 1.0L glass carafe and basket switch) has done great on nearly
700 pots of coffee by now. I lost count after I got the Gold mesh filter,
after I had already used 450 paper cones.
Tom tends not to sell any junk equipment to clients with whom he's gained a
Master reputation. You will absolutely not be disappointed with either
coffee brewer!
If anyone of significance in your life knew that either machine raises the
bar so far above the rif raf Tinkertoys available from the Impulse marketers
in the Big box emporiums, explaining the slight cost difference might be
worth rehearsing. After Cup #1, it would be moot commentary.
Keep the machine clean and send condolence cards to those who think it's
high priced.
