good luck if you're going to northbrook. i spent three weeks there. i asked
if anyone knew about an espresso bar and their response was, "what's that?
you want coffee? there a duncan donuts down the street."

I was surprised- I ticked the Clover website, and they had a map of N
America with a Pin at every location with one of their brewers. This was
only a couple of weeks ago, but only one spot on the map had more than one
brewer in a Metro area. Denver town has four. This place has more than a few
*$ across the street from each other. (Grocery bar / coffee shop separated
by 100yds!)
No great commentary on the coffee awareness of Cow Towners, They're Closing
In. I'm less than 20mi from all four Clovers. The power of Marketing and
suggestion.
Let's see- I forget, but I think I remember a certain colorful metaphor that
might describe the stuff they purvey around here...
As Jackie Gleason would say, "How Sick it Is!"

Wonder if a Clover is more expensive than a trained coffee brewing monkey.

If you happen to be in the far west burbs at all (on the edge of the
cornfields), try Four Beans in Batavia -- Randall Rd. a couple miles
north of 88. That's just west of the Fox River. New roaster/store --
excellent.

Enter in Google. Get three results and map.
Two in downtown loop, one a little north of the loop.
Easy access by taxi, bus, plane, train, elevator, L- I think.

Good to know--I sometimes have to stay in St. Charles and get CD-Rs
duped at a plant in Lily Lake; and I play each year at the Fox Valley
Folk Festival in Geneva and pass through Batavia on the way to and
from there.

Scott,
Thanks for the info. I'm in Elgin and had no idea there was a store in
Batavia. Do you know if they sell greens???

I'm not Scott (duh) but hmmm, do they sell greens? Have no idea! But I know
for sure our List Hosts Tom & Maria most certainly sell greens.

MiKe,
Quite aware of our wonderful hosts selling greens; would explain how I know
about this list, and the extraordinary greens I am currently in possession
of. But, as always, thank you for your insight.

Definitely Intelligentsia --- they have four locations in the city. If
you'll be downtown, I'd recommend the Millennium Park location (if you like
brewed coffee, definitely try a cup made on the Clover there if you've never
had Clover coffee), which is on Randolph between Michigan and Wabash, on the
south side of the street.
<Snip>
next Monday and >Tuesday........so, would LOVE to hear where people
recommend for a good cappuccino/latte!!!!

There's also Metropolis, which is in Evanston...or around there. I
would say those two are the best roasters in Chicago.

Close but no cigar. Metropolis is in my neighborhood, Edgewater (4
bl. s. of Rogers Park and 2 mi. s. of Evanston). 1011 W. Granville,
just w. of N. Kenmore. Either take the CTA Red Line to Granville and
head east 1.5 bl. or take the Outer Drive Express bus to Sheridan &
Granville and walk w. just over a block. If driving, there is a
small lot just w. of the shop.

Ah, thanks for the directions. :-) I live on the far south side of
chicago...so when I drove the 30 or so miles to get up there, 2 miles
isn't much. :)
I was only there once, but ordered from their web site a couple of
times. Fast and friendly service!

I live on the far, far, far west side of Chicago - perhaps 4 hours west...
(Cedar Rapids, Iowa)... The best brew is from Brewed Awakenings on 1st
street... They understand fresh, crema, barista and all the other
components for making great coffee nectar...
If you wander too far west, we have aguest room!

(My husband practices on the S.Side--his ofc. is near Midway--and at

I doubt they sell greens. But they'd definitely talk shop with you
about roasting.
Good people.
