Oh, Dennis, I am so, so sorry. I will pray for your Lady, and for all who
love her.
Since Emma started to have seizures last year, I've been homecooking all th=
e
food for our dogs. If anyone wants links to recipes for both cats & dogs
(it's important that they get the right nutrients), email me off the list.

Condolences. We've had Misha, our Flame Point Siamese mix, on prescription
diet and daily "torture treaments" of IV fluids for over a year because of
kidney failure. I hate sticking him with a needle daily as much as he hates
getting it.:-(

Ok I'm not normally one to just throw out info like this.
I just wanted to ensure that all pet owners are aware of the expansion of
the pet food recall.
My wonderful Lady is in kidney failure and we don't know if she will make
it.
Please if you have pets check to make sure that your food is safe there are
new foods still being added every day so keep up with it so you can protect
your pets. Please!

I had a black kitty named Misha (more often called MishMosh) who died =

Please give Lady hugs and kisses form Beau and Buddy (Beau the Bichon and the 109 pound Buddy who is Blood Hound with 10% Rottie).
I decided a long time ago to feed my dogs a raw diet. They get raw meat (chicken, beef, whatever,) fresh veggies, fresh fruit, cottage cheese with a base of cooked rice and oatmeal. I cook the rice and oatmeal every other day. They also get some cookies I found a recipe for online.
My sister was by one morning when I was feeding these sweet puppies, she looked at the plate and said it looked better then what she gave Billy (her husband!!)
please keep us posted about Lady.
warmest regards,

Ok, from what I am gathering, this is caused from some bad grain that
came from china... geee go figger that....!!
Now my worry is, not only the dogs that are getting sick in the US here,
BUT... many MANY other foods use 'grain fillers' in them.... hamster
food, gerbil food, bird pellets, sugar glider pellets, food for
reptiles, etc etc....
How much of this stuff is really all over, and when (if) will it start
showing in other pets as well..
Maybe it already has; but people don't really give a shit and don't
report it, I mean, a parakeet cost 12 bucks, it dies, who cares
right.????. WRONG... tell that to the 12 year old child who is
heatbroken. But mommy and daddy are just going to goto petmart and get
billy / susy another 12 dollar parakeet and not think about WHY it might
have suddenly died.
Dogs cost several hundred dollars, and people will not think twice about
paying several thousand dollars to keep them alive, they act like the
dog is part of the family....and it indeed is!!
Lizards cost a whole lot less, certain birds costs a lot less, smaller
rodents cost a lot less, and sadly are considered to be more
'disposable'.. it dies ::shrug:: they all end up dying anyways, get
over it.
Personally I think this problem has reached far further than anyone ever
imagined, we just don't see it yet.
Dennis I wish the best for you pet there. I have bearded dragons, and
other various lizards and other pets, (95 percent of them rescues).. to
me, they are family, they are my children... and I can safely say that I
probably am not the only one w ho feels this way about their pet. It
sounds like things are looking up for you, and given the dogs age, you
are very lucky.
Please keep us informed.
Aaron

Thanks Dennis,
Your email prompted me to stop procrastinating and call my vet to ask
questions. I have two cats who will be 3 in July (Tamar & Rahab) they are
"my girls" and my in house family. I don't feed them wet food and what I d=
o
feed them is not on the list, which I will keep checking. I asked the girl
at my vet about making home made food and she suggested I buy holistic food
and told me that would be safe. I will keep your Lady in my prayers (and he=
r
mom & dad) for a speedy and full recovery!

Aaron -
We are animal lovers here in our house. My kids have had gerbils, rabbits (I
tried desperately to save little newborns, in vain - one of my worst
experiences!), rats (since I was terribly afraid of rats, they secretly
bought them w/their Christmas money from their Grandmother - whenever a
bunch of little kids are ANGELS and go to bed at 6 PM - somethings
sneaky...)... oh, and my son had a couple of snakes - one of which I almost
killed by stepping on it a good month after it had escaped it's cage.
And the usual cats & dogs... so I've said more than my share of prayers for
all of our critters, even prayed over the poor (ugh) snake.. which lived,
despite my huge half Polish feet!!
I truly believe God's creatures ARE angels, and they have angels with them.

Be sure to check to make sure the so-called 'holistic' food doesn't get
their food supply from the same source. The list keeps changing, too, by th=

way - difficult for anyone outside of the big companies to make promises.

Latest update....
Lady is going to be spending the next few days in the hospital on IV
fluids and meds. But things are looking up, her Creatine (sp) levels
and BUN levels are heading back to more normal levels...
(Thinking positive here) when lady comes home, we will probably have her
on a diet of boiled chicken & rice and off the commercial food...
After all (we don't have kids) Lady is my child, and I don't want to do
anything to jeopardize her health.
Lady is a wonderful 17 y/o border collie/Springer spaniel mix. Think
smart and has an attitude!
Thank you to all for the kind words and support. I feel bad for my
wonderful wife Marjorie who is having to take care of all this with out
me. She is a trooper and most definitely worth keeping!

I sincerely wish you the best with that.
Been there with my first Dalmatian, only 10, suspected food. Researched
and
now feed raw, which is becoming increasingly more popular as more and
more
people report the benefits being seen. As direct descendents from the
wolf
they are carnivores, which thrive on raw flesh, organ and bone.
Anything
grain or corn based is not prime food for them.
Sorry for the rant.....Bad commercial food and the illness of a pet
is/was a
topic very sensitive to me, I could go on and on.
Plenty of lists/sites that support new comers to raw feeding exist out
there, I urge anyone with pets to avoid commercial pet food PERIOD.
Off the soap box and again, sorry.
