Krups Novo to Barista (Saeco Rio Vapore and then Estro Profi--the
Barista [formerly Estro] line is rebadged Saeco) to Capresso Ultima to
Silvia to Livia was my upgrade path (though the Ultima, a "grind-
it-and-steam-it-yourself" type of semi-superauto--lacks both a grinder
and an auto-frother--was more of a sidetrack than an upgrade). Silvia
is your best bet in a single boiler; there are some with e61 groups,
but they are as pricy as some cheaper HXs. It is fairly tricky to use
compared to the Barista or even the Livia; and lacks a separate hot
water tap (though you can draw hot water from the steam wand), but it
is much more powerful than the Barista. I learned my home barista
chops on the Silvia--you can get some excellent shots, far better than
on the Barista; and you will be able to make microfoam and pour latte
art. Just not very fast or in quantity. On Apr 5, 2007, at 7:52 PM,
