Actually, per Tom in the past, there is a request to refrain for
"highly controversial" OT subjects, politics and religion both
specifically mentioned.
The original post nails both.

2) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
Folks - John and Floyd are correct, and I think most of you agree-
this is a coffee list. I ask you to avoid controversial, emotional
topics such as Iraq, Bush, Religion, etc. The reason is that a post
on those topics is, intentionally or not, bait. Don't bait the list,
period.
I understand that politics, religion, culture and all that are part
of everything and we can't take a subject like coffee and simply
remove it from its context with the world. In fact, I would be sad if
it was so. But email lists where people have come to the discussion
to talk about coffee, well, its not fair to barge in with other
topics. Also, we don't interact face-to-face here, and a lot can go
awry when discussing hot-potato topics like that, simply because of
the format. If my argument seems unacceptable to you, consider also
that this is a commercial list that we host, and if you post emails
that bait others into off-topic, belligerent responses then you are
driving a customer away from sweet marias. so take yourself over to
alt.coffee and do what you will, but please don't hurt our business.
we need it, our employees need it, etc.
thanks for reading this.
