I have a related question: Is it safe to heat water, already-brewed coffee,
etc, by putting it into a glass jar, such as a Mason jar or a former peanut
butter jar (without the lid) and heating it in the microwave?
Thanks,
Brian

Brian-
I think you'd be okay with a mason jar. I have helped people do some
canning and know that they plunge them into boiling water to
sterilize them without any effect on the glass. However, I would
steer clear of doing this with "run of the mill" glassware such as a
peanut butter jar. I once saw a mug explode about 10 seconds after it
was taken out of a microwave. My guess is that anything marked
"microwave safe" would be fine as well.

Thanks, Rich, I'm glad I asked.
A bit of background:
I want to experiment with brewing moka pot coffee the night before, putting
it into the fridge overnight, then warming it up in the morning. Won't be
doing it often, just when traveling a very long way and scrambling to get on
the road early, meaning that I don't want to take the time in the morning to
brew with the moka pot. I won't be traveling for a while, but I want to
experiment to see whether I like moka pot coffee brewed the night before
more than I like press pot coffee brewed the morning of. I usually heat
water in the microwave in a 2-cup glass measure, but that isn't big enough
for the amount of coffee I have in mind, so I am trying to think of
alternatives.
Thanks again for your advice.
