Has anyone done a melange of the Java's? If yes, what were your results?

Since nobody has replied yet I have a non-answer for you. I haven't done
a roast blend of Java and I wouldn't want to. Since it has no acidity or
fruit, all you would be getting is more roast taste with the darker roast.
What seems to work well is a bean with all lot of fruit and acidity and
then has good chocolate or some other characteristics at a darker roast.
One that worked very well for me was a Nic. CoE which had raspberry with
a tart lemon twist at a light roast. Then at light Vienna it was very
sweet and carmelly. It was excellent.
I recently tried Costa Rica ... Hermosa which was my first and only
roast(s) and it didn't work because the top end is very subtle and
nuanced (which I didn't realize [could have been my roast]) and the
darker roast just muted that even more.
Centrals in general seem to work best for this. Look for reviews where
Tom says at City+ it's fruity but it's also good at Full City+ bringing
out more... whatever.

Jeff,
Thank you for the input. I have tried the Java at FC to FC+ and the
chocolate was great. I just cupped some that I roasted to City+ out
of curiosity. I also gave some of it to a friend at work and we both
agree that it was really good.
With respect to the Costa Rica Dota Tarazzu Hermosa, it was one of my
first roasts in the RK Drum. I had not had any luck with the previous
Costa Rica coffees I had roasted so I figured I would use it for
practice. For whatever reason, it turned out really good and I
thoroughly enjoyed it.
