Topic: roast curve for drip (5 msgs / 137 lines)
1) From: GHolli7210
Does anybody have a good roast curve for Ethiopian Mist Valley roasted in a
Gene Cafe?
I've been preheating 482 for 10 min reaching 478 adding 230 grams and
roasting for 12 min then lowering to 350 for 3 min then cool cycle for 2 min and
finish cooling with 2 colanders.
The results are OK but not outstanding. I know this coffee can do better.

Jerry,
Check out this link:http://southcoastcoffeeroaster.blogspot.com/2007/02/does-roasting-profile-really-matter.htmlI did a comparison of a few profiles with the Idido Misty Valley in
the Gene Cafe. Out of the four, you might find something you like.
Hope this helps ...

Eddie -
I read your blog entry & the info on the Misty Valley that you compiled.
Decided to roast some of my Misty (have a few pounds left), and TRIED to
mimic your profile - not an easy task, since I'm roasting stovetop (that's a
'Very Crappy Stove' top), and electric to boot.
But I did manage to lengthen the roasting time from what I was doing before,
so I'm hoping I'll end up with improved results. Just wasn't happy with the
roasts I got out of the Misty before.
Will let everyone know in a few days, after it rests...

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Lynne,
Thanks for that, I caught it just before I headed out the door. Looks =
like Eddie found 13 min to 1st with roast stopped at 16 (profile 4) to =
be the best. I don't think that will work with Les's hot start profile =
but maybe I can try to get close with my next batch.

Just remember that these profiles were created with the idiosyncrasies
of the Gene Cafe in mind. After cupping, you may find the profile to
be a good start, but some tweaking may be in order.
I would really be interested in the cupping results from both of you!
