my own take on the SC/CO (or SC/TO):
snipurl.com/eWOK_CO
this has a much more powerful motor (from a movie theater-style kettle
popcorn popper) than the SC, and the heating element of the eWOK
(electric wok) gives a little extra push when i need it (initial ramp
up, getting 1st crack going in time, preventing stalls or too slow a
ramp after end of 1st). this is run through a 600w dimmer to keep the
wattage from tripping my 15 amp breaker. the CO does most of the work as
far as heat is concerned, but the extra heating element run through a
dimmer gives me better profile control. i usually roast 1 lb at a time,
but i've done as much as 1 1/2 lb and as little as 1/2 lb with great
success.
