A couple of popper roasting basics, in case you are not aware of them:
1. Though it may seem counter-intuitive, more beans cause the roast to
proceed faster and hotter. Using fewer beans slows the roast. So, if your
roast is racing, proceeding directly from first crack into second crack, try
again with less beans.
2. If your roast seems to be proceeding well, but then all of a sudden
progress stops, it is likely that you will need to remove the bimetallic
thermostat. You can google for it. The thermostat itself looks sort of like
a silver fish scale, and you can pull it out with a needle-nose pliers.
3. Extension cords tend to reduce the heating capability of the popper.
4. You probably want to roast outside.
