The COE (Cup of Excellence) & Daterra Farms presented at the SCAA Long Beac=
h Conference, the advantages of Vacuun packing Process.
Currently some=
farmers here in Brazil are thinking in a way to make it in the Coffee Whar=
ehouses. the main problem is the Fitossanitary Inspection done at the Port.=
A well done vacuun process will cease the Green Beans Bio degradation=
, so this process will keep the green beans almost with the same caracteris=
tic for 3 years.
In a near future, we can see that doing the vacuun pa=
cking process in the Wharehouse have great advantages for Specialty Coffee =
Beans.
I think, for small roasters and a lot of criativity, you can d=
evelop something close to a vacuun packing system, and do it at home.
=
The metalized bag (like tetrapack & others) can get the best results.
=
I hope this can help to motivate peoples a use this new way.
See ya

Ashamed to admit that though I've bought the cotton muslin bags, I've mo=
stly just been using the ziplocs in which SM's sells the beans. Haven't had=
anything go baggy or get invaded by moths yet.

If it is true, then how harmful could it be? I could find no information a=
bout this online so thought maybe someone in the SM coffee loop might know.=
Also there is the burlap odor to deal with. It seems like burlap is alw=
ays going to smell "burlapy"...I have some that I have aired out for weeks =
that still has a strong burlap odor to it. Any suggestions would be apprec=

and I already have done that but I am going to need alot more so I thought=
about making some of my own. It is not that hard to sew a straight stitch=
if one has a sewing machine).
