Topic: Kopi Luwak again (3 msgs / 107 lines)

Hi,
I have been back lurking for a while but I just heard a story on
NPR's Fresh Air that was quite informative about the elusive Kopi
Luwak so I decided to break the silence. The guest was Massimo
Marcone who won an Ig Nobel for developing a method to certify Kopi
Luwak coffee as authentic. He has just published a book, "In Bad
Taste" which is about his quest for foods that tend to be rejected by
the culture bound. On today's Fresh Air he talked about Kopi Luwak
and a maggot infested cheese from Italy. I found his discussion
quite informative. Among my coffee adventures, I have had the
opportunity to taste three different Kopi Luwaks. The first one was
the one offered by Tom a few years ago, the second was the result of
an exchange with Mike McKoffee and the third was one certified as
authentic by Dr. Marcone back in 2004 when I won my Ig Nobel. All
three had an almost identical distinct quality to the taste so I have
been reasonably sure that all three were authentic, including the one
Tom obtained for a mere $7.00 a pound as I recall. Anyway, you can
go to:
