Hi ~? Due to my daughters interest, I have recently been experimenting with the wide world of Tea.? No, it will never come close to my enjoyment and satisfaction of roasting and brewing (or pulling shots) of coffee, but it's an interesting diversion.? I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some basic "Tea Info" (how? much to use when brewing, brewing temps, good teas to try....real basic stuff) as well as if there is a "Sweet Maria's" in the tea world.? Thanks!

Although I am one coffee hound,  I adore a good cup of hot seeped tea  
later in the day.  There is a place for both in my life and I would  
not abandon tea for coffee or vice versa.  As a consumer, you dont  
have much choice as to the regions, growing or drying process except  
to purchase quality tea.  I have not researched any sites that might  
specialize in tea the way SMs does green coffee but there could be  
some out there.  In some ways, tea is simpler given that you have a  
good loose tea, a teapot, and the correct water temperature (just  
below boiling point and use a hot water pot or stove top kettle), not  
as many things to issue over.  Like coffee, it then becomes a matter  
of preference and taste.  There are shops that specializes in both  
coffee and tea where you can sample some of the types.  You could  
look for that in your town.  I viewed the video about the adapter for  
coffee baskets and would really wonder about that.  It might be OK if  
you want to make iced tea vs hot tea but I would think that once a  
basket has been used for coffee it would seem to always retain a  
coffee personality.  Also, tea is so simply "seeped" that  the idea  
of "brewing" tea just seems rather harsh and unecessary to me.  I  
know there are "tea makers" out on the market but I have not  
succumbed to that yet bec the tea process is so simple, why  
complicate it.  One of my favorite loose teas is the Samovar black  
tea blend from kobukcoffee.com.  It is full bodied and spicy, very  
unique. (They are a small local shop and dont sell green coffee so  
there should not be a conflict of interest with SM's).  The loose tea  
is the only way to go. You can find good info online.

As far as brewing at the correct temperature is concerned. I find that =
drawing water directly from my steam boiler of my espresso machine to be =
 perfect  for brewing tea.

I second the Upton Tea recommendation.  For me, they are the Sweet  
Maria's of the tea world. They have great information on the web and  
a newsletter that describes how to brew tea.  Just go to their web  
site and click on the "Need Help?" shortcut.  If you are just  
starting out with tea I would suggest their Sampler Sets.  They  
include 4 kinds of tea and make about 12-16 cups of tea.  It would  
help you decide what kinds of tea you like.  If you go to the gift  
section of their web site there are sets with tea samples and all the  
brewing equipment too.  You can also order samples of any of the teas  
they carry. As you order from them you can rate the teas and they  
will give you recommendations for other teas to try.  My personal  
favorites are Yunnan and Assam for everyday drinking and they have a  
Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearl green tea that I love when I am cold or  
not feeling well.
To keep this on topic:
I'm the tea drinker and my husband is the coffee drinker.  Several  
years ago a friend introduced us to home roasting and gave us a Fresh  
Roast.  For quite a while I just dabbled in the roasting - doing an  
occasional roast for him to enjoy but most of his coffee drinking was  
from beans roasted elsewhere.  Fortunately, there are a couple of  
good roasters in the area.  Recently I got the bug to start doing all  
our coffee roasting myself rather than relying on others.  I've been  
enjoying it quite a bit and doing research on other roasting  
devices.  I like the batch size and the convenience of the Fresh  
Roast so for now I think it's my best option.
Thanks to this list and Sweet Maria's great descriptions and cupping  
info I've also branched out in the kinds of coffee I'm roasting.  Rob  
mostly prefers African and Indonesian coffees and finds that the  
Central Americans are not to his taste.  My last order I got some  
Brazils that he liked.  It seems like a 'bad' coffee from Sweet  
Maria's is still better than a 'good' coffee from the place we won't  
name.
